Centrica P.L.C., through its subsidiary British Gas, has acquired the remaining 81 percent of stocks of Econergy Ltd., a biomass heating solutions provider, for lb6.5 million ($10.06 million), adding to the 19 percent share it bought in 2009.
"The acquisition supports British Gas's strategy of helping customers to reduce their carbon emissions through a portfolio of renewable technologies," Centrica said in a statement.
Investor confidence in biomass rose as the British government recently approved the renewable heat incentive that will award companies installing biomass boilers lb7.9 per kilowatt-hour of heat generated. The value of the incentive will depend on the size of the boiler output.
