These projects are the 103.5-MW Vienna wind project in the Marshall and Tama counties, which the company bought from RPM Access L.L.C.; the 101.2-MW Morning Light wind project in Adair County; and the 200.1-MW Eclipse wind project in Guthrie and Audubon counties, which the company bought from Clipper Windpower.

Consisting of a total of 176 wind turbines, all three projects are designed for completion by yearend.

"Wind is a viable renewable energy resource that enhances our energy portfolio, providing additional generation at a reasonable cost for our customers. These projects also fulfill our commitment to Iowa regulators and our customers," said MidAmerican president and chief executive Bill Fehrman.

The counties of Adams, Adair, Audubon, Cass, and Guthrie are in southwest Iowa while the Marshall and Tama counties are in the east-central region.

"In 2009, MidAmerican Energy received approval from the Iowa Utilities Board to add up to 1,001 megawatts of wind-powered generation prior to 2013, and I'm proud to say we have agreements in place to fulfill that commitment," he added.

In December 2010, MidAmerican Energy said it would add 593.4 MW of wind-powered generation in Iowa, which included the 443.9-MW Rolling Hills project in the Adair, Adams, and Cass counties; the 119.6-MW Laurel wind project in Marshall County; and the 29.9-MW Pomeroy wind expansion project in the Pocahontas and Calhoun counties, which were all completed by the end of 2011.

This year, an additional 2.3-MW wind turbine will be added to the Rolling Hills project.

MidAmerican Energy spokeswoman Ann Thelen said the company will be working with Siemens Energy to manufacture wind turbines at its facility in Fort Madison. (Jhoanna Frances S. Valdez)
