A brand new once-off check may soon be coming your way if you meet this eligibility critiera. Both local and federal authorities will often rely on one-off payments, often referred to as stimulus checks, in order to address financial concerns and crises of residents with immediate effect. The last widespread stimulus check initiative released by the federal government was during the COVID-19 pandemic, when the Biden Administration released three rounds of Economic Impact Payments (EIPs). Now, a new federal stimulus check initiative is set to begin.

The role of EIPs during COVID-19

While stimulus checks and once-off payments are far from a long-term solution when it comes to finding ways to move forward from widespread systemic financial problems, they do provide an inroad to alleviating immediate and imminent financial expenses, especially for those who are the most economically vulnerable. Further, they are often a responsive intervention tactic and are not necessarily recurring.

These payments played a critical role during the COVID-19 pandemic, whereby unemployment rates across the country reached heights not seen since the Great Depression. The Biden Administration intervened with three waves of EIPs between March 2020 and March 2024 in order to help residents cope with this significant loss of income. The last of these EIPs, which came as part of the ‘Rescue America’ legislation plan, amounting to $1,400 was still available for eligible taxpayers to claim this tax season.

New $1,000 stimulus check for these residents

Up until now, no other widespread federal stimulus check had been announced by the federal government. Other states, however, have continued with their own stimulus check and tax rebate initiatives, such as the New Jersey Affordable New Jersey Communities for Homeowners and Renters (ANCHOR) program which can see eligible homeowners and renters claim back up to $1,750 in tax credits for their property taxes, provided that you meet certain income critiera.

However, a brand new once-off federal check has recently been announced as part of the recent passing of the ‘One Big Beautiful Bill Act’ from the Trump Administration. If you have recently welcomed a newborn, you can be eligible to claim $1,000 from the Administration thanks to the new ‘Trump Accounts’ .

“It’s a pro-family initiative that will help millions of Americans harness the strength of our economy to lift up the next generation, and they’ll really be getting a big jump on life,” President Donald Trump said in June this year White House event.

To qualify to receive the once-off payment, you must have welcomed a newborn between December 31, 2024, and January 1, 2029. Additionally, caregivers can contribute up to $5,000 per year initially to the accounts in order to encourage saving for their children’s future, such as college education. The earliest date parents can begin making contributions to these accounts is July 4, 2026.

States aim to make raising a family more accessible

On top of the recent federal Trump Account initiative, states themselves are putting in legislation and starting initiatives to make raising a child more accessible for their economically vulnerable residents. California has currently been piloting it’s Sacramento Family First Program, a pilot program organized by the state to investigate the feasibility of offering a guaranteed basic income program to eligible residents.

In order to be qualified to take part in the pilot, you need to have a child who was below the age of five years old and who is in your care for more than 50% of the time. Eligible residents chosen for the pilot also needed to reside in one of the following zip codes: 95815, 95821, 95823, 95825, 95828, and 95838. Choosen beneficiaries are currently being sent $725 checks each month until July 2026, as well as being offered a variety of other programs to take part in, such as budgeting courses.
