Ferrari is bold but so too is its aerospace-inspired box engine that shatters all performance records redefining how roadworthy vehicles should perform. Ferrari’s grand reveal of the F80 showcased a machine that boasts Formula 1 engineering, innovation from Le Mans, as well as an aerospace-inspired box engine design. Credit must go to the hybrid powertrain that is capable of 1,184 horsepower. The F80 is more than a hypercar, the F80 is a testament that Ferrari is capable of engineering excellence.

V6 with three electric motors

The F80 surely is impressive but more so because of its twin-charged V6 that combines with three electric motors. Deviating slightly from the engine configuration of the traditional V8 and V12, the Italian automaker has moved towards a configuration that offers approximately 900 horsepower from the combustion engine itself and a further l,296 horsepower from the three electric motors. One electric motor is integrated into the rear and the other two are integrated into the front. The F80 accelerates from 0 to 200 km/h (124 mph) in just 5,7 seconds pushing the limits of what is attainable when you drive this Ferrari.

Ferrari is utilizing an electric turbocharging system to eliminate turbo lag and to ensure effortless power delivery across all rev ranges.

Engineering prowess and cutting-edge technology

The F80 is meant to turn heads, and it does so solely because of its design. The entire design borrowed features from Formula 1 and aerospace engineering. Striking features of the F80 are the carbon-fiber monocoque tub and roof structure that secures a lightweight foundation. Since only 799 units are planned of this marvel, it seems like the F80 is not just a beauty to look at but a beauty to collect.

Ferrari lovers will be impressed by the fact that the Italian automaker introduced 3D-printed components for the first time in the form of the upper wishbones. While 3D-printed components is one of Ferrari’s latest feats, the braking system too is a work of art. Ferrari liaised with Brembo to manufacture carbon-ceramic discs reinforced with longer carbon fibers to provide strength and heat dissipation efficiency. High speed braking is enabled both on the racetrack and on the road.

Ferrari is in a league of its own proving that it is ready for the future. Looking at two fuels that can beat hydrogen in their innovative engines, Ferrari is driving a whole new agenda, and this world-renowned automaker is surely making a statement. The F80 surely is a bigger and bolder statement from the brand whose core focus is the driving experience.

Old-school controls but a novel selling point

While Ferrari goes old-school in terms of sticking to its racing ways, it does have newer selling points. The passenger seat is minimized to a 1+ seat configuration to ensure focus falls on the driver. With the driver’s seat being vivid red, the passenger seat tends to fall into the background. Offset setting positions assist to allow the driver to get the feel of being alone on the racetrack.

Physical buttons have been placed on the steering well and this is somewhat of a change from touch-sensitive digital controls that have been making waves of late. The Boost Optimisation system that utilizes real-time GPS mapping and deploys added power when required showcases the appeal of utilizing AI-performance technology.

Each of the 799units produced are priced around $3,2 million and are already sold out. Ferrari has dominated the racetrack for long and with the new F80 Ferrari is dominating more than just the racetrack. The F80 is an eclectic mix of Ferrari’s past and future whilst being faster than imaginable. Ferrari has shown that it could strategically say goodbye to its hydrogen dream because Ferrari’s newer dreams are bolder and bigger.
