Double stimulus payments are being sent out across the country, and you may be eligible for one of them. Stimulus payments are a direct and seamless way for local and federal authorities to provide immediate financial assistance for residents. While generally reserved for low-income and socioeconomically vulnerable groups, stimulus payments can also be distributed at a more widespread level, depending on what the purpose of the payment is intended to do.
Double stimulus payments for these individuals
Across the country, states are continuing to distribute and manage their own unique stimulus payment programs. Additionally, federal authorities are also working on distributing new stimulus payments for eligible residents across states. If you qualify for both your state’s unique stimulus program as well as a federal payment, you may very well receive a double stimulus payment before the end of this month.
Examples of once-off stimulus payments that are currently being distributed by states individually include New York state’s new once-off inflation rebate credit, as well as the annual STAR rebate payments. Over October and November, New York Governor Kathy Hochul’s government will be distributing inflation rebates for New Yorkers, worth up to $400, in order to provide some relief from the increasingly high costs of living the state is seeing. Additionally, New Yorkers can claim a property tax rebate as part of the established School Tax Relief (STAR) program in the state, which can see homeowners receive as much as $1,500 in rebates.
On top of these local initiatives, the federal government recently announced a more widespread stimulus payment initiative, whereby the Trump Administration will distribute one-time $1,000 payments into ‘Trump Accounts’ for parents who have welcomed a new baby between January 1, 2025, and December 31, 2028. The once-off payments are intended to encourage parents and caregivers to kickstart saving for their children’s future, with caregivers permitted to contribute up to $5,000 in the accounts.
Two stimulus payments go out this week across these states
This month, a double stimulus payment will be distributed to eligible beneficiaries, albeit across two different states. If you are a resident of Virginia and have filed your state income taxes before July 1, the Virginia Department of Taxation recently announced that you can expect to receive a rebate of up to $400, depending on your filing status, by October 15, thanks to the state running into a tax surplus.
“Virginia’s strong job growth, bolstered by business investment commitments of $140 billion has driven a total of $10 billion in surplus revenue and enabled a record $9 billion in tax relief,” said Governor Glenn Youngkin in a statement.
On the other side of the country, California authorities are continuing to distribute monthly $725 stimulus payments for beneficiaries who are part of the Family First Economic Support Pilot Program cohort. The pilot program is intended to investigate the effects and feasibility of establishing a guaranteed basic income program for families with young children.
Ensure that your taxes are paid before the year-end
Stimulus rebates are generally associated with the tax liability you pay to your state or federal authorities, such as the Virginia rebates and New York STAR rebates. In order to ensure that you are able to receive these payments, should you meet the eligibility criteria, it is important that you continue to keep yourself informed on all your tax obligations.
What’s more, keeping yourself updated on your tax obligations ensures that you continue to stay ahead of your legal obligation to pay your taxes, ensuring that you avoid penalties and legal repercussions for failing to file and pay. Recently, Illinois has announced that if you have found yourself in a position where you have not met your tax obligations, you have until November 17, 2025, to apply for amnesty, whereby you will not be subject to interest and penalties.
