Class-action lawsuits provide an opportunity for plaintiffs to not only seek legal justice against a defendant, but also mean that they may be able to receive a cash payout in compensation for the damages the defendant has inflicted upon them. These payouts can range from a couple of hundred dollars to thousands. Plaintiffs in a recent class action suit have an upcoming deadline to submit their valid claim if they would like to receive a payment of $5,000. Check if you qualify now.

Class action lawsuits bring systemic justice

A class action lawsuit is undertaken when there is a widespread legal injustice that has affected many individuals. A lawsuit to this extent generally occurs between a class of individuals who are pursuing legal justice against a large organization or entity; however, class action lawsuits can be brought against a single defendant. Generally, though, a class action lawsuit is pursued because the collective power of the individuals is needed to distribute the power imbalance between entities that have access to increased resources.

Class action lawsuits also generally expose systemic injustice or violations that affect many individuals as opposed to an acute event or circumstance that would prompt an individual to take legal action against a single defendant. Common circumstances that prompt a class action lawsuit include cybersecurity attacks, financial fraud, identity theft, and even a desire to change the law in and of itself.

While a class action lawsuit does mean that any financial compensation settled between plaintiffs and a defendant must be shared among class members, you are far more likely to settle for the first place if you pursue legal justice as a group instead of as an individual.

Deadline to submit your claim for $5,000

In May of this year, TalentLaunch agreed to a $1.2 million settlement between plaintiffs to resolve the claim that the employment agency failed to prevent a data breach in May 2023, which exposed sensitive information of their clients. In a world that is increasingly moving online, cybersecurity breaches are becoming increasingly more common— and companies need to take extra precautions to secure client information.

As part of the TalentLaunch settlement, eligible class members can receive compensation up to $5,000 for out-of-pocket expenses as a result of the data breach. Class members may also receive a cash payment of $53.77; however, this amount is subject to change depending on the number of claims filed. The payment cannot exceed $350.

The deadline to submit a valid claim for the settlement is July 25. A valid claim is for any person who meets the following criteria:

  • You received a data breach notification from TalentLaunch informing you that your information was compromised in the May 2023 data breach
  • To receive compensation for out-of-pocket expenses, provide documented evidence of expenses incurred in relation to the data breach

TalentLaunch admits to no wrongdoing

As is common in class action settlements, TalentLaunch did not admit to any wrongdoing as part of the settlement. The May 2023 cyberattack affected approximately 119,000 individuals. The final court approval hearing for the litigation is scheduled for August 12 later this year, where a court will approve the final litigation claims from plaintiffs before payments can be distributed.

Similar to other class action lawsuits over cybersecurity attacks, plaintiffs allege that the data breach compromised personal information such as consumers’ names, dates of birth, Social Security numbers, driver’s license and state ID numbers, passport numbers, financial account details, digital signatures, medical and health insurance information, biometric information, and mothers’ maiden names. For more information about this settlement, you can visit Top Class Actions and get informed about how to file a claim.

Disclaimer: You should not submit false or inflated claims under penalty of perjury, as class‑action claim forms historically required declarations signed “under penalty of perjury” to ensure authenticity. Submitting a fraudulent claim not only carries legal exposure—including potential civil and criminal sanctions—but also harms other eligible class members by diluting the available settlement pool.
