The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) sends out millions of payments to its beneficiaries every month in order to help subsidize grocery-related expenses. SNAP has been recognized as a cornerstone social assistance program with regard to preventing childhood poverty and helping families keep food on the table. This month, a new round of payments is set to be distributed to SNAP beneficiaries, with your payment date depending on which state you live in and your case number.

The core requirement to take part in the program is that your income level has to be at or below 130% of the poverty line before deductions take place. The amount of SNAP benefits you are eligible to receive is also dependent on how many dependents you support with your income.
The general criteria to be eligible to receive SNAP benefits are as follows:

- Household of five: net monthly income limit of $3,049
- Household of six: net monthly income limit of $3,497
- Household of seven: net monthly income limit of $3,945
- Household of eight: net monthly income limit of $4,394
- Every additional member: +$449
In addition, recipients cannot have over $2,250 in countable resources, or $3,250 in countable resources if at least one person in the household is aged 60 or older, or is disabled. In addition, you must always make sure that you report any changes to your income circumstances as changes to income may mean you are no longer eligible to receive benefits.

New Sun Bucks program for SNAP beneficiaries
With the summer vacation period arriving and the subsequent closure of schools, this has meant that families who have children who are on the federally funded school lunch programs may be struggling with the increased load of grocery expenses. As a response to this, the US Department of Agriculture as been releasing ‘Sun Bucks’ payments for eligible beneficiaries in order to help cover the increased food costs associated with having children home for the vacation period.
If your family already receives SNAP benefits, you will automatically qualify to participate in the Sun Bucks program benefits. Automatic qualifies also include those who are part of the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families, Food Distribution Program on Indian Reservations, or Medicaid (in participating states). If your child is part of the National School Lunch Program or the School Breakfast Program, they will also qualify to receive the additional benefits. If you or your child are not part of these program, you can still apply to receive the additional benefits.
