Vehicle recalls are a routine part of ensuring that vehicles on the road are not a safety hazard for drivers and other road users. While some recalls are for minor problems, such as software-related issues, others can be much more dangerous, particularly if the problem can cause engine failure while driving. Ford has had their fair share of vehicle recalls in the past year, and has now recently announced another recall, this time for a select number of their trucks.
Ford encounters multiple vehicle recalls
Recently, Ford has been recalling a variety of their vehicles. One recall was for select 2019-2020 Ford Transit Connect models. These models were affected by a software-related issue, whereby the engine was at risk of overheating due to the cooling mechanism not working, which could potentially cause a fire hazard. Owners of these affected vehicles were notified by April 28.
A second recall issued by Ford was for over 270,000 Broncos and Mavericks models. The massive recall was due to a battery-related problem, whereby deficits in the 12-volt battery could lead to a power loss due to the deficits causing open circuits in the battery connectivity. The affected vehicles were for models manufactured between February 2021 and October 2023, and affected vehicle owners were notified by February 3 earlier this year.
New recall for these Ford models
Recently, Ford has issued another recall, this time for their 2025 model year F-250 and F-350 trucks equipped with the 6.7-liter Power Stroke V8 turbo diesel. The recall is due to damaged fuel-line assemblies, which increase the risk of a fire occurring in the engine. Affected vehicle owners would have reportedly been notified by the end of May, requiring their vehicles to be brought in to a dealer to have the problem fixed at no additional cost to the driver.
The multiple vehicle recalls by Ford have resulted in the company needing to settle a $165 million civil penalty with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) in November last year after it was found that Ford failed to recall and notify vehicle owners who had vehicles with faulty rearview cameras in a timely manner.
“Timely and accurate recalls are critical to keeping everyone safe on our roads,” NHTSA Deputy Administrator Sophie Shulman said in a statement. “NHTSA is committed to ensuring manufacturers comply with the laws designed to keep our roads safe. When manufacturers fail to prioritize the safety of the American public and meet their obligations under federal law, NHTSA will hold them accountable.”
How to ensure you keep your vehicle safe on the road
When it comes to vehicle recalls, it is important that you ensure that you bring your vehicle in as soon as possible in order to guarantee your safety as well as other road users when driving. Failure to do so could result in you being liable for an accident on the road, especially if it is related to engine failure, and you knew about the risk. However, there are other precautions you can take to ensure your vehicle is roadworthy.
Always ensure that you have proper insurance for your vehicle. Despite many drivers noting the increasing prices of insurance as of late, insurance guarantees that you and your vehicle are protected in the case of an accident. It ensures that you have support and cover to pay for damage to the vehicle should your vehicle need repairs, and ensures that drivers continue to drive with road-worthy cars instead of driving damaged vehicles because they cannot afford the repairs.
