Few brands have the prestige of Bugatti, both in terms of exclusivity and thermal efficiency in their engines. Can you imagine if you could “convert” your car into one? This is precisely what has just been achieved thanks to a new fuel that changes everything: you have more than 400 hp in your car just for using it (and yes, you can have it with a small change that will revolutionize your driving style).

This combustion engine runs on an unprecedented fuel: goodbye to EVs

The H2-ICE engine is a new developed engine that uses hydrogen as its fuel source, with an electric motor developing around 80 kw for powering the car. The Fox uses a novel 2.0-liter, turbocharged hydrogen engine that delivers over 400 horsepower, leading to a tough competition with the conventional gasoline engines.

This is a great accomplishment because such pots give hydrogen engines something to aspire to; they can be as effective as fossil fuel engines. Even the amount of power that this engine develops is as much as gasoline engines like those of Bugatti Chiron; this is some improvement in hydrogen engine engineering.

Firstly, unlike previous hydrogen engines, the successful H2-ICE engine possesses several distinctive characteristics. It breaks with the prudence of the low-power fuel cells for using hydrogen, and establishes its mechanical efficiency in 150 kW per liter, equivalent to racing engines powered by traditional fuels.

New fuel efficiency boosted: why is this hydrogen engine so special

Nonetheless, it claims some challenges by which the H2-ICE engine is experiencing. The first is the absence of the refueling stations for hydrogen fuel which is one of the major challenges of implementing hydrogen fuel in the transportation industry.

To this end, AVL Racetech is in the process of developing portable electrolysis equipments capable of directly generating hydrogen at the site of the race track thus eliminating the expenses accrued in establishing a base of hydrogen refueling stations.

The H2-ICE engine has some changes that make it distinct from the usual hydrogen engines in different ways. First, they are meant to incorporate some features from internal combustion engines (ICE) and electric cars (ECs). This gives such advantageous characteristics as those of ICEs but does not produce emissions and noise.

Secondly, the high feeble performance level of the engine through water injection makes it rather unique from other hydrogen engines that would use lean mixture and are designed more in line with fuel economy rather than raw power.

Does the hydrogen engine have future? What experts say about FCEVs

The H2-ICE engine is one the most enhanced progress in the realization of hydrogen engines. For these reasons, it has been testified to be a preferable choice for a replacement of ordinary gasoline engines due to the showcased impressive performance and increased efficiency.

Further growth is expected to be observed in the future, which means that hydrogen engines will be one of the most important components for further progress in the future industry. Some of the problem areas that arose in connection with the H2-ICE engine:

  • The construction of a new infrastructure for its operation.
  • Investing in hydrogen engines that have even greater efficiency, without focusing solely on the power of the engine.
  • The granting of tax incentives superior to those available for EVs.
  • The exploitation of green or blue hydrogen to leave behind other ‘colours’ such as red or grey.

As you can see, this new fuel not only “turns” your car into a Bugatti, it also takes engine efficiency to a new level. Imagine never refueling again and, above all, never polluting the roads with your vehicle. It’s a proposition that Tesla may not like too much, but it will save you thousands of euros with only about 10,000 to 20,000 kilometers of driving, something that has already been proven.
