When it comes to two U.S. states, they could not be any more different. The one has a rich culture shaped by Mexican and German heritage, and is known for a sense of pride and spirit. The other has a culture shaped by Caribbean heritage and has a more laid-back lifestyle. One thing they share is benefits, and both are entering the last week to receive them. However, not everyone in these two states will qualify to receive these benefits. Discover today which citizens will qualify before the payments end.
This is why these payments matter in these two states
The Sunshine State is known for having high grocery costs. According to TCPalm.com, from 2022 to 2023, citizens’ average monthly income increased by 4%. Unfortunately, the average monthly grocery bill increased by 6%. According to the Children’s Defense Fund, the state also has a high child poverty rate, which is further impacted by these high costs.
The Lone Star State may have a significantly lower cost, including lower grocery costs, compared to other states, but child poverty remains a major concern. According to Every Texan, nearly 20% of the state’s children live in poverty. The high child poverty rate is linked to greater challenges in the state’s health and education systems, as the age group is the most at risk in the state.
This is where federal aid programs are vital. Now, these two states are in the final week to receive aid from a particular program, with only certain citizens receiving benefits this week.
This program will be sending out benefits to citizens in these two states
The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) is a food assistance program that distributes food benefits to households with limited income and resources. In Texas, qualifying citizens receive their SNAP payments on their Lone Star Cards, which can be used at any store that accepts SNAP. Texans who meet the income limits and work requirements are eligible for SNAP.
Some states have the flexibility to make a few changes to SNAP eligibility requirements. According to the Florida Department of Children and Families, these requirements must be met to qualify for SNAP:
- Proper identification and Social Security Number
- Citizens aged 16 – 59 must meet General Work Requirements unless exempt
- Citizens aged 18 – 59, unless exempt, must work or participate in the SNAP Employment and Training Program
- Have a gross income limit less than or equal to 200% of the Federal Poverty Level
- Have U.S. citizenship and Florida residency
- Child Support Cooperation
- Must meet asset limits
There are items that you cannot purchase with SNAP
As of Tuesday, October 28, 2025, these two states will no longer send checks for the rest of the month. Texas distributes payments on a staggered schedule, with payments guided by the last two digits of the EDG numbers. Florida distributes payments based on the last two digits of beneficiaries’ Florida Case Numbers.
SNAP helps citizens buy healthy food items to promote healthy eating habits. Citizens can also purchase garden seeds with SNAP payments. According to the Texas Health and Human Services, SNAP beneficiaries will not be able to purchase the following items:
- Tobacco
- Alcoholic drinks
- Non-food items
- Candy
- Sugary drinks
- Pay for food bills you owe
This program is a vital source of income for citizens who cannot afford healthy food items, and it encourages households to invest in their health and well-being. This goal was once again indicated after several states joined forces to ban unhealthy food items. As you await your final payments from SNAP, see whether you also could qualify for these $400 inflation checks that will be sent out soon.
