Yet again this mythical brand has recalled more than 600,000 cars and all Ford drivers other than the just those of the 694,000 vehicles that are being recalled are wondering if they are affected. The recall is rather serious as it deals with a defect that could cause underhood fires. Affected by this particular recall is two of Ford’s rather popular crossovers, the Ford Escape (2020–2022) and the Bronco Sport (2021–2024) that each contains a 1,5-liter EcoBoost three-cylinder engine. This newest recall by Ford that has gained more attention since this mid-July 2025 recall is part of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and Ford’s initiative to look deeper into fuel injector problems that seems to continue despite the earlier recall efforts and software upgrades.

Understanding the reason for the recall

The reason for the rather intense recall can be attributed to the XL3 high-pressure fuel injector which was initially supplied by Dumarey Flowmotion Technologies of Italy. Fuel injectors that have part numbers HX7G-9F597-BB and HX7G-9F597-BC tend to crack over time making it a possibility for gasoline to leak in the engine’s cylinder head.

Fuel or vapors can slip through the drain hole and make contact with hot surfaces causing potential fire hazards. Thus far, eight cases of underhood fires caused by the flaw has been reported in the U.S. Ford market. Thankfully, the incidents reported did not lead to any injuries at the time. Out of the eight vehicles that experienced the worst of the defect, six vehicles had already been through the software updating process as per prior recall attempts and thus the current recall leads to questions pertaining to why earlier recalls were not effective.

Ford’s affected models being recalled

All Ford vehicles that have the 1,5L EcoBoost engine fitted is affected including these specific Ford models:

Ford Escape

  • Model years 2020,2021, and 2022 manufacted in the U.S,

Ford Bronco Sport

  • Model years 2021, 2022, 2023, and 2024 manufactured in Mexico

Both the Ford Escaoe and Bronco Sport have come to be known as best selling vehicles from the brand. Nevertheless, the trims that have been equiped with the 1,5L turbocharged three-cylinder engine is the most affected models. Other trims such as the 2,0L EcoBoost or 2,5L hybrid engines are not included in this particular recall.

How has Ford reacted to this particular recall?

The injector issue, more so the cracked injector, seems to be a rather serious mechanical issue that Ford has yet to uncover a solution for. Ford will update the engine control software which was a strategy utilized previously during the recalls of 2022, 2024, and March 2025.

Such an update is meant in order to pick up potential fuel leaks as well limit the engine temperatures while reducing fire risks as Ford is considering a more complete mechanical remedy.

Affected Ford drivers would have received the initial notification letters from Ford detailing the issue. The original notifications will be mailed between August 18 and August 22, 2025. Thereafter, a second notification detailing the final remedy will be mailed as well once it is ready. The recall reference number is 25S76.

Utilizing the vehicle identification number (VIN), Ford vehicle owners can find out if their Ford model is affected. A previous Ford recall affected 300,000 cars and was quite a huge recall for Ford.

Understanding the larger impact of this recall for Ford

In July alone, Ford issued a recall of 132,000 vehicles due to trim pieces that detached while driving. Another recall so close to this recall does mean that iconic automaker’s name has taken quite a knock. There are over 700,000 vehicles affected and this could come with greater financial implications.

Most Ford drivers will agree that their key concern when purchasing a vehicle model is that of safety and the possibility of a fire hazard spells a serious risk. For now, Ford is addressing the problem by issuing free software updates and this will be followed by a full repair.
