There was a time when EVs were considered a future option, and to some extent this may still be the case. However, brands seem to have lost interest in developing prototypes that look almost futuristic. We have seen it again with this new stratospheric hydrogen engine, which exceeds 500 hp and has a massive injection that we have never seen before.
New massive new hydrogen engine: so big, it won’t even be for cars
MAN Engines PLC has presented an innovatively new hydrogen engine that is designed to be used in heavy-duty equipment: tractors, power generators stationed permanently at construction sites, as well as agricultural machinery. The 16.8-liter V12 engine produce an astonishing 500 horsepower.
This power comes out clean will water vapor as the only greenhouse benefit; yet it is already an example of climate-friendly-engine-technology. Unlike battery-electric solutions, hydrogen engine are on point with performances by offering power, torque and load response like diesel engines.
It is possible to directly perform its functions instead of engines without significant reduction in productivity and efficiency. The motor’s constructional plan, which is based on many decades of experience in making heavy-duty diesel engines by MAN, makes a strong engine.
Without releasing CO2 gas and being much less noisy in operation, the hydrogen engine provides an environmentally friendly solution to decarbonization for sectors outside roadway applications that have tried to go electric.
500 hp of power and this detail in its injection: pay attention to what this hydrogen engine provides.
MAN Engines new fuel hydrogen engine is extravagantly powerful for both sheer size and workload. 500 hp top power and 16.8 litres displacement, make it one of the globes hydrogen engines with large outputs developed to date, as you could imagine.
The V8 configuration permits power to be generated of not only high horsepower, but also a substantial amount of torque output. Since hydrogen engines are mostly smaller basing on 4, 6 cylinder sizes that are suitable for light duties.
The fact that the 16 can produce 500-horsepower power underlines only its tremendous effectiveness. 16.8 liter three-way hydrogen power system is a huge step forward. This proves that hydrogen is able to be used for high power applications, managing to keep the performance at the same level, maybe even higher.
A new type of fueling for this hydrogen engine that puts an end to electrics
MAN D1556, a hydrogen-powered engine of the latest generation, is currently the only one that operates on pure hydrogen fuel. It ensures zero-emission operations of heavy-duty machinery and vehicles. The D1556 differs from many hydrogen prototypes in that there is no need for a pilot ignition from the diesel fuel source.
The engine is a multiple fuel motor, which is able to function on either diesel-hydrogen mixture or pure hydrogen. In case of unavailability of pure hydrogen, the diesel-hydrogen blend is used. The diesel becomes the spark, which ignites the hydrogen when the synthesis process takes place.
The D1556 injector system also meets the requirements of the current emission regulations by providing 16.8 liter per minute included gaseous hydrogen injection flow into the 350 bar pressure. Such pressure is given a high injection so that the concentrate of the hydrogen can be in the form of spray which ends to combustion.
This hydrogen engine could be the beginning of a new generation (the third, if we take into account the previous ones we have shown you). The injection is forever changed, bringing more power to the whole and allowing it to surpass the psychological barrier of 500 hp. Will we see it in top brands? Of course, don’t expect it in Tesla, but do expect it in a German one.
