Sustainable mobility is not only based on electricity, but also on liquefied natural gas. According to the latest inventions, it seems to be all about a fuel that we have talked about on other occasions, although not as we will do now. This is the new massive hydrogen engine, with a three-liter that comes to resurrect internal combustion when many thought it was lost.

Bosch launches new hydrogen engine: goodbye to EVs

Daimler-Bosch recovered some of its lost ground on Thursday when Bosch unveiled its plans to market a revolutionary new hydrogen combustion engine in the market by this year. This 3-liter engine developed for use in commercial vehicles, specially, trucks and construction equipment.

Hydrogen engine innovations have led to an incredible discovery. Now, we can get similar power from hydrogen as from internal combusion engines fueled by gasoline fuel or diesel but without even one speck of CO2 emission. However, there is no emission of water vapour, hence no greenhouse gas is being released.

Bosch believes in the application of hydrogen solution as one of the efficient and environmentally friendly approaches to minimizing greenhouse gas level, especially in the spherical vehicles movements. Such announcement through this press release confirms that giant automakers are creating a stir.

Bosch Mobility explains in their webpage that “The hydrogen engine represents a further option in the powertrain mix of the future”.This facility was created by special design and dedicated to the storage requirements of H2. It, therefore, becomes the technology with the lowest emissions.

Bosch’s new hydrogen engine in detail: why it’s so different

The Bosch hydrogen engine will be available for various possibilities, like in vessels, trucks, lorries, and construction machines. In the engine, they use the architecture of the old internal combustion engine which however has been improved to burn only hydrogen fuel.

Similar to battery powered cars, hopefully could keep the usual name of the engine parts similar such as piston, valve and the crank shaft. This not only makes it possible for the manufacturing process to be based on existing facilities and supply chains, but it also ensures that relying on them is possible.

The biggest alteration that can be seen is in the fuel delivery which is noted. On contrary to the fuel injectors indispensable for gasoline engines, the hydrogen engine relies on advanced direct injection technology for an effective supply of hydrogen gas directly to its combustion chambers.

Moreover, the engine timing has been tuned to allow a hydrogen harm speed which is faster from gasoline. The engine is also enhanced as fuel compression ratio plateaus at a higher point thanks to hydrogen’s higher autoignition temperature. Scalable output from presumably few modules is up to 500 horsepower.

Features and details of Bosch’s new hydrogen engine

Bosch’s hydrogen engine is a 3-ordered litre and delivers a record horsepower. This will be a lot of power, however, it it is from the medium-sized engine. Of course, a family sedan in the typical gasoline-fueled category can feature a 2-3 liter-engine generating 100 or even over 300 horsepower.

Thus Bosch’s 3 liter hydrogen unit presents a distinct advantage of producing a competitive horsepower (instead of being on par with the other hydrogen prototypes). The engine can utilize either hydrogen or gasoline as fuel depending on the fuel that is available.

The rate with which power is applied to the car is increased as a further advantage that Bosch addresses as well. The peak torque of 236 lb-ft is spread out broadly across an expanding range of engine speeds, leading to powerful acceleration and workhorse build.

The truth is that this new massive hydrogen engine is designed to change the rules of the automotive industry and overcome the challenge posed by autonomy. Just last week we were talking about the possibility of the first hydrogen REx, which still seems remote. However, this type of engine brings it closer and, at the same time, brings back zero-emission internal combustion.
