Just for citizens in this state ― $400 checks paid for those who meet this criteria

Residents from this state must check their EDG digits today to see if they qualify to receive this payment next week. Social service programs form the backbone of support for economically vulnerable individuals. From recurring payment programs to one-time stimulus checks, both federal and state authorities use these programs to provide intervention to alleviate financial stress while at the same time providing tools and resources to ensure that all residents can become economically self-sufficent.

The importance of social support programs

Ensuring that no individual is unable to financially support themselves is a critical concern for authorities and policymakers. Lowering unemployment rates and poverty statistics is an indication that a country has a strong social support system for its residents, and highlights how governments prioritise the well-being and livelihood of their citizens.

One of the most fundamental social support programs funded by the federal government is the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). This program provides benefits to low-income individuals, which are intended to help cover food expenses. While the program is federally funded, benefits are distributed by states to their residents who qualify to take part in SNAP benefits.

To be eligible to receive SNAP benefits, your income must be correlated to your household size in the following way:

  • Household of one: net monthly income limit of $1,255
  • Household of two: net monthly income limit of $1,704
  • Household of three: net monthly income limit of $2,152
  • Household of four: net monthly income limit of $2,600
  • Household of five: net monthly income limit of $3,049
  • Household of six: net monthly income limit of $3,497
  • Household of seven: net monthly income limit of $3,945
  • Household of eight: net monthly income limit of $4,394
  • Every additional member: +$449

While these are federal standards, which citizens need to meet, states have some leeway to adjust who qualifies for SNAP benefits and the amount of benefits that you are able to qualify for and receive.

Check your EDG digits to see if you will be paid your benefits next week

If you are a resident of Texas and qualify to receive SNAP benefits, check to see if you will be receiving your benefits from the Texas Health and Human Services next week. Texan authorities stagger SNAP payments throughout the month depending on the last two digits of your EDG number. Payments are sent out between the first and 28 of the month. Between today and the end of next week, the following Texan SNAP beneficiaries will receive their benefits depending:

  • 65-67: 19 September
  • 68-71: 20 September
  • 72-74: 21 September
  • 75-78: 22 September
  • 79-81: 23 September
  • 82-85: 24 September
  • 86-88: 25 September
  • 89-92: 26 September
  • 93-95: 27 September
  • 96-99: 28 September

The payment you receive will be different from other SNAP beneficiaries, as the amount you are eligible to receive is dependent on your income level relative to the number of people in your household— the same stipulation for what makes you qualify for SNAP in the first place.

Who will receive $1,756 next week?

Of the payments set to be distributed now until the end of next week, only families who have an income limit $5,583 will be eligible to receive $1,756 in SNAP benefits payments. The income limit is due to the fact that SNAP benefits are calculated based on the assumption that a household spends 30% of its income on food.

SNAP beneficiaries must also take note if, in the new year, their state may be implementing stricter measures regarding what they are allowed to buy using their SNAP benefits. The program already has limitations on which foods you are allowed to buy; however, new legislative changes from certain states will see authorities increasing the limitations on what you are allowed to purchase. Most of these limitations involve further limiting the purchase of sugary foods and other ‘junk food’.
