This one state will soon be sending their residents a one-time check this month. Stimulus checks and payments are one of the most direct ways for state and local governments to reach their residents with immediate effect to alleviate financial pressures. While they are not long term solutions to the current cost-of-living crisis many individuals and families across the nation are experiencing, they do allow for some breathing room by residents while a more sustainable strategy is sought.

Stimulus checks provide immediate financial relief

The effects of once-off stimulus checks providing critical and immediate financial relief was seen most significantly during the COVID-19 pandemic. Between March 2020 and March 2021, the Biden Administration released three rounds of stimulus checks, known as Economic Impact Payments (EIPs). These EIPs came at a crucial time when unemployment statistics reached heights not seen since the Great Depression.

The third and final EIP payment, amounting to $1,400, was still up for claim this most recent tax season. Since the EIP payments, there has been no additional confirmed widespread stimulus check initiative by the federal government, despite rumors of payments set be be released amounting to anywhere between $2,000 and $5,000. However, at a state level, specific stimulus payment initiatives continue to be underway.
