Ford recalls these Mustangs over this safety concern. Vehicle recalls are a standard safety procedure that every vehicle developer will experience. These recalls ensure that when an identified problem affects several vehicles of the same make and model, owners are immediately informed to bring their vehicles in. This ensures that all lives are kept safe on the road and that no vehicle on the road is a safety hazard. Check now to see if your vehicle may be part of this widespread recall.

Vehicle recalls save lives on the road

Generally, vehicle developers will work with entities such as the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to conduct a recall. These recalls can be for minor safety-related vehicle concerns or more major problems, usually relating to engine and power failure of a vehicle. While a major vehicle recall is not generally good news for a developer to have to announce, it ensures that developers remain transparent with their consumers, highlighting how they continue to prioritise the safety of their drivers.

By mandating that developers must provide vehicle repairs free of charge for drivers affected by these recalls, as well as requiring developers to always publicly announce these recalls, these systems ensure that developers retain accountability for production errors as a means to continue to foster trust between the automobile industry and drivers.

Ford recalls these Mustangs over safety concerns

This year, Ford vehicles have undergone a number of recalls. This follows a $165 million civil penalty Ford settled with the NHTSA in November last year over allegations the automobile developer did not notify vehicle owners promptly of a rearview camera fault. Earlier this year, owners were notified at the end of April regarding the 2025 model year F-250 and F-350 trucks manufactured with a 6.7-liter Power Stroke V8 turbo diesel. The recall pertained to a manufacturing error, whereby a fire was at risk of starting in the engines in affected vehicles.

Now, the end of this month saw Ford announce a recall of selected 2015-2017 Mustang coupes and convertibles regarding a seat safety belt-related problem. Affected vehicles’ front seat safety belts are at risk of experiencing corroded anchor pretensioner cables. This can then subsequently weaken the cable and cause ot to break off.  Over 3330 000 vehicles are expected to be affected by the recall:

“Corrosion on a seatbelt anchor pretensioner cable may weaken the cable or result
in its separation from the anchor pretensioner assembly, reducing the effectiveness of the seatbelt
restraint system in a crash and increasing the risk of injury” described the 25V-614 recall report.

Ford continues to experience growth despite recalls

Affected Mustangs in the recall are those produced between February 14, 2014 through to October 2, 2017. To date, Ford is not aware of any vehicle crashes or injuries that have been caused due to this error. Affected owners are expected to have been notified by the end of October. Ford switched to a new safety belt provider in 2017. Dealerships are expected to have a fix available to affected vehicle owners by the start of the second quarter of 2026. Vehicle owners can visit the NHTSA website to confirm if their vehicle is part of the recall if they have not received a recall notification yet.

Despite the recalls Ford has announced this year, the company has continued to maintain strong growth. In the second quarter of this year, US domestic sales rose by 14.2% year over year. During that same period, the company gained a 1.8% increase in the US market share. The majority of their success is attributed to the sales of their SUVS, pickup trucks, and electric vehicles.
