When it comes to certain mythical cars, they don’t just disappear; they make a shocking comeback. One such legendary vehicle that experienced its big unveil in February 2024 and started being delivered in 2025 is the legendary Renault 5. After 50 years, the Renault 5 E-Tech, which featured retro styling but futuristic power, made a comeback, however, this time as an all-electric vehicle. Hinting at a pathway filled with nostalgia but offering sure signs of modernity, this vehicle is still catching much attention as the dated 1972 car that has been reborn.

Bringing back a retro classic with a modernistic touch

Le Ca, as it is called in the U.S., or rather the Renault 5, first made its debut in 1972 and stole hearts mainly due to its compact design. The initial Renault 5 made a shocking statement by providing an economical fuel choice at a time when the fuel crisis was in place. Despite the exit of Renault from the U.S. market, the vehicle remained well-loved and sold across European markets.

To rekindle a flame from the past, Renault brought back the spirit of the original Renault 5 but in the form of the Renault 5 E-Tech Electric with its own modern twists. Although a split image from the initial 1970s version, this newer model has been redesigned by adding much detail and consideration to achieve optimal precision. Having the signature style but modernized elements, such as trapezoidal LED headlights, this car can bring about a sense of nostalgia while pushing the driver to embrace the future enthusiastically.

While the silhouette bears testament to the classic silhouette form, this car surely is a car that was built for the electric future with its AmpR Small EV architecture.

A comeback that embraces a revolutionary fuel

The chosen fuel choice for the Renault 5 E-Tech Electric is, however, not gasoline. Renault has chosen two battery-electric powertrains that provide:

  • Urban Range: A 40-kWh battery delivering 120 hp and up to 192 miles (WLTP) of range
  • Comfort Range: A 52-kWh battery with 147 hp and a longer 252-mile range (WLTP)

The benefit is that both variants have fast charging times. The vehicle has also gained much attention since its unveiling due to its consistent regenerative braking and smoother throttle response. When driving at 70 mph, the vehicle remains quiet. Quality is a certainty with Renault’s team, which proves that any experience in their vehicles ought to be more than just basic. Inside the vehicle, there is a 10,1 touchscreen and denim-inspired upholstery.

A rival finding its place in the modern EV realm

Stealing some of the limelight from competitors such as the Mini Cooper Electric, the Renault 5 E-Tech is priced at $24,700. While the Renault 5 E-Tech seems to be enjoying a considerable advantage in the European market, the Renault 5 won’t be making a comeback in the U.S. market. The R5 Energized is an iconic city car that has made its comeback in 2024 and has moved full swing towards the EV market.

Renault’s commitment to electrification and its ability to support alternative energy solutions are clear in the form of this fun, friendly, playful yet respectful EV. Renault may not be here to steal the show in 2025, but with its 2024 comeback, it is surely in the market to make an impressive statement. A retro design does not require a sacrifice of powerful performance. This smaller city car enables a driving capacity of up to 250 miles of driving range on a single charge, proving that Renault is not just here to play but to dominate.

Modern performance with the revival of classic charm

Renault has shown that using electric vehicles every day is an option with their refreshing Renault 5 E-Tech that comes equipped with a virtual travel companion and all of its French charm. With its focus on the future and its ability to capture the past, the 2024 Renault 5 E-Tech allows the past and future to collide whilst remaining proudly stylish and French. Now imagine what could be revealed with Renault, Tesla, and BYD together in Paris.
