The Tesla Cybertruck has been the target of constant ridicule ever since its introduction in 2019. While Tesla has been hailed as a pioneer in electrical vehicle technology, the Cybertruck has encountered multiple problems and complaints from consumers. However, the strange-looking vehicle does have its fans. Recently, a Cybertruck owner took to the internet to complain about the damage he incurred on his car while doing Door Dash deliveries.

Cybertruck owner complains about damage to vehicle

The owner, Robert Wilkes, took to a designated Facebook group for Cybertruck vehicle owners and described the following event:

“I Drove DoorDash last night (it’s for punishment), and I ended up going off-road into the sagebrush. A lot of sagebrushes got stuck underneath, which was pretty noisy and screechy, but when I came out, I flew down the freeway (it was 12 a.m., so no vehicles were injured).

I wound up hearing that horrible side scratch that typically would be digging into the paint/wrap by that tall sagebrush, but today, when I took it through the car wash, it looked pretty good.

Except, of course, those plastic panels. This has never been a pavement princess for me (that’s what the Tesla Roadster is for), but I try not to trash my $100k vehicles – that’s what my 1973 Chevy 4×4 is for.

Anyway, yeah, they are pretty indestructible, but watch out for those plastic panels (my front bumper is jacked, too.”

The post by Wilkes had an attached photo showcasing the scratches on his Cybertruck.

Cybertruck is “indestructible” but remains a meme online

The recent events highlighted by Wilkes showcased that the Tesla vehicle is incredibly durable. Cybertrucks are made out of very hard stainless steel in order to make them resistant to extensive damage, dents, and scratches. The vehicles also feature armored glass. The trucks retail for over $100,000, and the damage Wilkes’ vehicle incurred despite its hard exterior is sure to set back the owner a few hundred dollars.

Despite its resistance to damage, the Cybertruck has become a meme online, mostly due to its unusual angular and geometric design. Its sci-fi like appearance deviates entirely from the classic and conventional pick-up truck design, making it prime subject material for the online audience to make fun of. It also tends to attract attention due to Musk being a target for the online audience.

Cybertruck vehicle sales begin to stall

By the second quarter of 2024, the Cybertruck was the best selling pickup truck in the US. However, sales began to fall, and by December of 2024 it appeared that sales had stalled. A memo released that same month also indicated that there a decreased in Cybertruck production could be expected for 2025. The memo stated: “As we continue to assess schedules to meet business needs, we’ll be making a change to Model Y and Cyber schedules, and we want to ensure that your preferences are considered.”

According to reports, many employees have been reassigned to work on the Model Y assembly line. Tesla begins distributing their new Model Y in March of this year, with a completely redesigned exterior from previous models. The new model is reportedly more efficient, and the interior has also been redesigned. The Model Y is one of Tesla’s most popular vehicle choices by consumers, with a starting price of just under $60,000.

The new design was first spotted on the road last year undergoing tests. The new vehicle has come with much anticipation, with the last version of the Model Y being introduced in 2023. For any loyal customer of a specific automobile brand, a new version of a vehicle is always exciting, and Tesla fans may be on their way soon to purchasing the latest model.
