As many know, China is one of the countries with the highest carbon dioxide emissions worldwide due to its multiple industries and dense population. These alarming data have led the Asian country to take extreme measures regarding the use of renewable energies such as the implementation of solar panels and the use of wind energy in its great desert.
Alarming pollution rates force China to take desperate measures
The country known for its remarkable technological development has given much to talk about during the delicate climate crisis that is being experienced throughout the world, as we must remember that its high pollution rates contribute considerably to climate change and its major catastrophes.
In order to find a solution to this problem, China set a pretentious and clear goal: to implement different energy targets, focusing mainly on reforming energy consumption in order to make it more efficient and sustainable. This would be a great efficient and sustainable answer in time for the aforementioned country.
Well, recently China has caused a sensation in the energy industry by transforming its largest desert into a great source of energy through the implementation of solar panels, managing to gain recognition worldwide due to its focus on energy projects, such as its gigantic energy reserve. The same has been done in order to achieve carbon neutrality in the coming years.
In pursuit of energy sustainability: China uses its desert to make it happen
The aforementioned nation is taking advantage of the full potential of its desert regions, which are located in the west of the country. These important measures are implemented in order to achieve the country’s environmental goals and to advance its “Eastern Data and Western Computing” technology plan.
The way to start the aforementioned plan for reducing carbon dioxide emissions and achieving energy neutrality is by establishing a series of colossal solar and wind power facilities. China even managed to easily find the space in which to implement it, the desert, taking advantage of these areas that would have no other use.
The first part of Beijing’s plan is to significantly increase solar and wind power capacity, reaching the point of about 1200 GW by 2030. This is possible thanks to wind and solar installations currently located in Ningxia, Xinjiang, Gansu, Qinghai and Inner Mongolia, which provide a total of 600 GW.
The purpose of solar panels: this is what China is aiming for
The People’s Republic of China has two main objectives with this ambitious project: to peak its carbon emissions by 2030 and to achieve carbon neutrality by 2060. This would imply reducing the nation’s emissions by 65% more than what was emitted between 2005 and 2030.
It should be noted that this project also seeks to increase the rate of energy from alternative sources by 80% by 2060. It is worth remembering that, according to the World Economic Forum, in order to achieve these goals, China needs to implement a new energy system based on environmentally friendly sources such as wind turbines and solar panels.
China is taking extreme measures in the face of the global climate crisis by transforming its desert into a massive source of renewable energy. This ambitious project aims to achieve carbon neutrality by 2060 and is a further step towards energy sustainability and the fight against climate change. What do you think of this new environmentally friendly behavior adopted by China?
