GCL-Poly Energy Holdings Limited will provide 7.5 gigawatts of wafer and polysilicon products to Trina Solar Limited, a leading manufacturer of solar photovoltaic products, over the next five years.
Under a supplementary wafer and polysilicon product supply contract signed on January 11, GCL-Poly will deliver the products to Trina Solar from January 2011 to December 2015. A price adjustment mechanism is included in the contract.
«The agreement to secure a portion of the company’s wafer and polysilicon requirement from GCL-Poly continues to extend our advantage to support our long-term sales growth and market share expansion goals into 2011 and beyond,» said Patrick Lu, Trina Solar’s vice president of supply chain management.
In December, Trina Solar (NYSE:
TSL
) announced that it will use about $800 million over the next three years to expand its manufacturing and research and development capabilities at its Changzhou photovoltaic factory in Jiangsu province.
Meanwhile, GCL-Poly also signed two additional supply contracts with Solarfun Power Holdings Company Limited and JA Solar Holdings Company Limited, totalling 12.5 GW of wafer and polysilicon products.
GCL-Poly will supply Solarfun with 2.5 GW of wafer and polysilicon products from January 2011 to December 2015, while it will deliver 10 GW to JA Solar during the same period. A price adjustment mechanism is included in the agreement with Solarfun.
These recent supply contracts coincide with the company’s announcement that it reached 3.5 GW in production capacity of silicon wafers a month ahead of schedule. The company was able to attain full production capacity of the first phase of its 650-megawatt silicon wafer slicing project in Suzhou and commenced operations at its silicon wafer projects in Changzhou and Suzhou.
This milestone will help strengthen GCL-Poly’s position in the global photovoltaic industry.
