GCL-Poly enters 4.4 GW supply contract with China Sunergy

GCL-Poly Energy Holdings entered into a long-term contract to provide China Sunergy Company with 4.4 gigawatts of wafer and polysilicon products.

Solar Energy Technology Company, a subsidiary of GCL-Poly, will provide China Sunergy with wafer and polysilicon products to be delivered from February 2011 to December 2016. The six-year contract was signed on February 14.

China Sunergy designs, develops, manufactures and sells solar cells from its production base in Nanjing. It sells photovoltaic products to Chinese and overseas manufacturers and system integrators who assemble its solar cells into solar modules.

This is the third supply contract that GCL-Poly, one of the largest polysilicon producers in China, took this year, with the three supply contracts so far totaling 17.1 GW.

The first was with Trina Solar Limited, a manufacturer of solar photovoltaic products, in January. GCL-Poly will supply Trina Solar with 7.5 GW of wafer and polysilicon products from January 2011 to December 2015.

The second was with Canadian Solar Inc., a vertically-integrated manufacturer of PV modules, also signed last month. Canadian Solar expects 5.2 GW worth of wafer and polysilicon from January 2011 to December 2015.

GCL-Poly reached 3.5 GW of production capacity of silicon wafers in November last year.

China Sunergy manufactures solar cells from silicon wafers, which utilize crystalline silicon solar cell technology.
