Vestas has received an unconditional order for 108 megawatts-worth of wind turbines from S.C. Crucea Wind Farm S.R.L./STEAG GmbH for one of Romania’s largest wind power plants.

The 108 MW-worth unconditional order is comprised of 36 V112-3.0 MW wind turbines. Utilizing these wind turbines, the wind power plant Crucea North – located in the Constanta county in the province of Dobrogea – is expected to produce more than 300 gigawatt hours annually, powering more than 550,000 homes in Romania, and translating to an annual saving of almost 124,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions.

Delivery of the wind turbines is scheduled to start in April 2014 while commissioning is expected to be completed by December 2014.

In addition to supplying, installing, and commissioning of the wind turbines, Vestas will provide the wind power plant with its Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition system which will monitor and control the wind power plant. A 10-year full-scope service agreement under Vestas’ Active Output Management service program will be provided so as to continually keep the wind turbines at optimal condition.

“The negotiations with Vestas for one of STEAG’s biggest projects in wind energy have been efficient and focused. We expect this to be the starting point for a successful strategic partnership in the development and realization of international wind energy projects,” said Dr. Ralf Gilgen, member of the Board of Management of STEAG GmbH.

“This wind energy project marks another important milestone in further developing the Romanian wind market, and we are happy to support our customer’s business case with our 30 years of wind energy experience and efficient wind energy solutions,” said Thomas Richterich, president of Vestas Central Europe.

“With this order Vestas reinforces its market leading position in the Romanian market having the strongest local presence and the largest operational fleet,” Mr. Richterich added.

The wind power project is seen as a key contributor to the Romania’s ambitious targets as detailed in its National Renewable Energy Action Plan. – EcoSeed Staff
