REpower to deliver wind turbines in several German communities

REpower will be supplying 24 community wind farm projects in the Schleswig-Holstein region with 103 wind turbines.

Wind turbine company REpower Systems SE will be supplying several community wind farms in Germany with a total of 266 megawatts worth of wind turbines.

REpower will be supplying 24 community wind farm projects in the Schleswig-Holstein region with 103 wind turbines.

The wind farm projects will be utilizing various types of wind turbines, ranging from the MM82 with a 59-meter hub height, to the 3.2M114 with a hub height of 93 meters. A total of 11 wind turbines of the signed projects are already in the implementation phase and are to be commissioned quickly. Other projects are expected to be completed by 2015.

The contracts to supply these projects with turbines were won by REpower through a signed primary memorandum with the purchasing association Schleswig-Holstein GmbH Wind in December 2012. Under the memorandum, project participants could choose the appropriate offer from the final negotiated contracts of four different manufacturers for their own location. Through this, REpower won 55 percent of all potential wind turbines for itself.

“With these contracts, we are significantly expanding our position in Northern Germany. This is only possible because we have a suitable turbine for each individual site in our product portfolio, from Lubke-Koog in the far north, to near Fehmarn in the east of Schleswig-Holstein, and also because we have the ability to implement the interests of customers optimally with our staff on site,” said Andreas Nauen, chief executive officer of REpower.

Based in Germany, REpower has been active in the country for several years now, for example, REpower delivered 47 wind turbines to seven wind farms in Northern Friesland back in 2009 (see related story), and a $118 million-supply and service contract for the Medelby community wind farm in Northern Schleswig-Holstein just this July (see related story). – EcoSeed Staff
