Vestas will be assembling the nacelles for their new 7-megawatt wind turbine designed for offshore operations in Lindo, Denmark.
The company signed a fixed period business lease agreement with Lindo Industrial Park, to take effect at the start of January next year. The lease covers production buildings and offices of almost 15,000 square meters.
The V164-7.0 MW is a dedicated offshore turbine designed specifically to endure harsh conditions such as those found in the North Sea, an area with great offshore wind power potential.
Construction of the first prototypes is expected by the fourth quarter of 2012, while serial production is set to begin in the first quarter of 2015.
Earlier this year, Vestas also signed an option for land at the Port of Sheerness in the United Kingdom for a fully integrated manufacturing and assembling facility for the V164-7.0MW.– Katrice R. Jalbuena
