Working from home can get dull when your only company is nothing but a view of a shared balcony. Mauro Tutzo noticed a couple had moved into the apartment next door but the one that first introduced itself to him was their dog.
The black and brown pup named Never climbed onto Mauro’s balcony and waited outside the glass door. What first was just an unexpected visit then became a daily ritual. Their newly formed bond was filled to the brim with attention, accompanied naps and even brand new pet toys Tutzo had bought.
A surprise visitor crosses the balcony
Seeing new people around and due to his monotonous lifestyle Mauro thoughts of meeting his new neighbors started going through his mind. Before he even had a chance to take action he look up and saw the unfamiliar dog standing at his balcony door and staring inside.
“Today I found out they also have a dog”, Mauro said in a TikTok video. “Do you want to know how I found out? He climbed onto my balcony.”
The pup couldn’t have chosen a better door. Mauro sells pet products and keeps enrichment toys in his home office! He then promptly invited the dog inside, filled one toy with a squeezable treat, and placed it on the floor.
Never finds exactly the right neighbor
Never (the dog) quickly licked up the treat and was in no hurry to leave. He spent several more hours playing, relaxing and even napping in Mauro’s apartment until his owners returned from their work later that day.
That was when Mauro finally got to introduce himself, meet his new neighbors and discover the visitor’s name. His owners explained that Never was allowed onto his own balcony during the day, but that he hated being alone.
In another video Mauro said that “honestly, he is the most attention-needy dog in the world. He wants attention all the time, and if you stop petting him he gets upset.”
A small spa day seals the friendship
Mauro did not mind Never’s constant need for company, in fact, he was delighted when he woke up around noon the next day and found the dog already waiting outside the sliding glass door. “He is basically enjoying a little spa day with the steam,” Mauro said while trying a steam brush on his visitor. Never’s reaction convinced him to continue the grooming session.
Never appeared happy to stay for the afternoon and rested on the floor for hours afterward. When his owners came back again he calmly climbed back over the balcony railing. The pattern was set.
New toys become part of a daily routine
Third morning comes and Never is back again at the door, wagging his tail as soon as Mauro notices him. Mauro lets him in and introduces another item from his pet-product collection, this time a chew toy shaped like a toothbrush.
“When he bites it, it brushes his teeth and helps remove tartar buildup” Mauro explained on another TikTok clip. Never took the new activity very seriously.
By the third day the first spontaneous visit had already become a routine that both Mauro and Never looked forward to, turning Mauro’s ordinary workday into something warmer and less lonely.
Two quiet days show how much the visits matter
Mauro enjoyed Never’s cheerful company so much that he started noticing a difference in his feelings when Never was not there. “I hadn’t seen him in two days,” Mauro said. He described the absence as “deep sadness” and concluded by saying that “the building felt empty.”
Never’s family had simply gone on a short trip though. Once they returned the two friends slipped back into their familiar routine as though nothing had changed, to Mauro’s relief.
Never always knows when it is time to go home
It’s been a few weeks after their first meeting but Mauro still dislikes having to say goodbye to Never. At the same time he is glad that Never returns to his family, a family that clearly loves him and has taught him how to be an educated guest and leave when the playtime next door is over.
“As soon as the dog hears his owners he immediately goes back to his balcony,” Mauro said. “You can tell how well trained, loving and well cared for he is.”
This is not a rescue story or a tale about a lost pet. It is a story about a neighborhood friendship made possible by one curious dog, one open door and a balcony that was close enough to be crossed.
The original videos documenting Never’s visits were published on TikTok.
