Our country’s roads are becoming more and more sustainable (even if we are going slowly, very slowly). However, we have taken the opportunity to diversify options beyond electricity, as is the case with this gas engine that has gone too far. The reason? It produces 500 hp and is going to put an end to all the fuels we know so far… and hydrogen could be one of them.

New gas engine to revolutonize the roads: it´s not what you expect

Stellantis, the auto giant that was formed after the merger of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles and the maker of Peugeots, PSA, was the company who teased to the world that they have already a powerful “gas” engine in their labs, which they claim that it is capable of producing above 500 horsepower.

The precise description of this wonder engine that are said to be embedded, are left to the imagination, as Stellantis executives only gave more vague details at the moment and refused to give in any concrete specifications.

People who have doubts about it and who think it is impossible that a gas engine can get more power and efficiency then the best EVs have, raise objections. However, with the certainty that this is the main problem, they have come up with what they call a revolutionised powertrain.

How innovations will lead to this type of leap for gasoline engines in a world when almost every automaker is going on full-electrical drive is the real question. Stellantis still has no evidence, but the small clues dropped in the right direction show that it is an engine unlike any this generation has witnessed.

It´s not that easy: Stellantis could take an unseen decision on this new engines

Earlier last month, there was a public buzz as the CEO of the convergence of the Fiat Chrysler and Peugeot maker, PSA creating Stellantis went on record stating that the corporate is still pursuing the development of the internal combustion engine.

Stellantis’ top propulsion administrator, Anne Abboud, told that their organization develops a new line of engines which she is very sure they will be superior to electric vehicles. This was a surprising information to share because of the heavy investment and attention – Stellantis has always given to electric vehicles development.

Apart from encouraging 75 BEV models, Stellantis global annually, the matter remains that the company would not be completely ditching from gasoline engines. It seems that this development trend suits gas development as a tool under conditions where the rate of consumers indulging in EVs is not as quickly established.

Rumors about the new engine: better than the electric ones and unprecedented power

The industry gossip around Stellantis’ remarks concerning a secretly planned high temperature gas engine has been making the rounds. Unanswered questions are what is the real amount of horses, this engine has so much power to compete with most expensive elite sports cars.

Some discuss the probability that this engine could be the stepped-up Hemi V8, which continues the success line of the Dodge’s changing Hellcat and Demon motors. They have a similar torque and a powerful engine that is able to achieve 700-800 brake horsepower in road legality limiting regulations.

From an engine power performance point of view, the former 500 hp Mahindra gas engine is more powerful than the 400 hp Cadillac one as a 500 hp motor provides more power than a 400 hp one. 2. 0L Twin-Turbo V8 (550hp), BMW x4. 4L twin turbo V8 (530 hp) or AMG 4 M80L twin turbo V8 (503hp).

How far do you think we could go with this gas engine? The truth is that not even carmakers are optimistic about gas-based mobility, although there are brands that are opting to take it as a substitute for gasoline in the short-medium term. Meanwhile, others continue to innovate with hydrogen, and so we have known the first hybrid engines that use this fuel.
