Toyota launches hybrid versions of its cars in Japan

Toyota has launched a hybrid version of their sedan “Corolla Axio” and their station wagon “Corolla Fielder” in Japan.

Toyota Motor Corporation has created highly fuel-efficient hybrid versions of their Corolla line of cars that are now available in Japan.

Toyota has launched a hybrid version of their sedan “Corolla Axio” and their station wagon “Corolla Fielder” in Japan. Now commercially available across the country, the hybrid vehicles are said to have superior fuel efficiency.

According to Toyota, the vehicles are equipped with a compact, lightweight, and highly efficient 1.5-liter hybrid system that can achieve a fuel efficiency of 33.0 kilometers per liter under Japan’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism’s JC08 test cycle, translating to top performance in their displacement class.

In addition to passing the JC08 test cycle of the MLIT, the hybrid vehicles also exceeded the ministry’s fuel efficiency standards for 20151 by 20 percent, achieving emissions levels 75 percent lower than the 2005 standards under the ministry’s Approval System for Low-emission Vehicles. Because of this, the vehicle models are eligible for tax reductions under the government’s tax incentive program for environment-friendly vehicles.

Contributing to the hybrid vehicles’ improved engine efficiency is its fuel-efficient Atkinson-cycle engine and its cooled Exhaust Gas Recirculation. And because the water pump is driven by an electric motor, there is no need for a drive belt, but more importantly, the coolant flow rate can be controlled thereby further improving fuel economy.

Toyota also made improvements on the hybrid versions of their cars, such as including a 4.2-inch Thin Film Transistor color multi-information display which can be sued to check Eco-Drive status as well as other hybrid-system information; placing the hybrid battery right under the rear seat for more interior space; and an exclusive hybrid model front grille.

In addition to the hybrid versions of the “Corolla Axio” and the “Corolla Fielder,” Toyota is also offering a special Corolla Fielder “Hybrid G Aerotourer.WxB” grade. – EcoSeed Staff
