The 50 megawatt Macho Springs Solar Power Plant has been sold to Southern Company subsidiary Southern Power and Turner Renewable.
The sale was announced by First Solar, which developed and constructed the project working closely with the New Mexico State Land Office and El Paso Electric (see related story).
Macho Springs, located on approximately 600 acres of State Trust land near Deming, New Mexico., is the state’s largest solar power plant (see related story) and it will generate enough clean energy to power approximately 18,000 homes.
The project is under a 20-year power purchase agreement with El Paso Electric (see related story).
Macho Springs is the third project that Southern Power and Turner Renewable Energy has acquired from First Solar. The first was the 30 MW Cimarron Solar Project in northern New Mexico, purchased in 2013. The second was the Campo Verde Solar Facility in April 2013 (see related story).
“We are proud of our successful ongoing relationship with Southern Power and Turner Renewable Energy,” said Tim Rebhorn, Senior Vice President of Business Development for First Solar. “We are pleased to provide another best-in-class PV power plant to the partnership’s growing renewable energy portfolio.” – EcoSeed Staff
