Senvion has so far installed and commissioned 75 of the 175 Senvion MM82 and MM92 type turbines that are specially made for cold climate. Phase two of the project, which consists of 100 additional turbines, is slated at the end of 2015.
Senvion SE, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Suzlon Group, has completed the first phase of the 350 megawatt Rivière-du-Moulin wind farm in Canada.
Senvion has so far installed and commissioned 75 of the 175 Senvion MM82 and MM92 type turbines that are specially made for cold climate. Phase two of the project, which consists of 100 additional turbines, is slated at the end of 2015.
The wind farm consists of a total of 152 Senvion MM92 and 23 Senvion MM82 type turbines. Upon completion, Rivière-du-Moulin is expected to produce enough power to meet the demands of around 106,000 households.
Rivière-du-Moulin, which is located in the Regional County Municipalities of Charlevoix and Fjord du Saguenay, will be the largest wind energy facility in Canada signed under a single Power Purchase agreement. The 350 MW wind farm is also one of the two biggest onshore contracts in the history of Senvion.
“With the completion of Rivière-du-Moulin, Senvion has an impressive footprint in Quebec which will continue to grow,” said Andreas Nauen, chief executive officer of Senvion.
“I am very proud to see phase one of Rivière-du-Moulin reaching commercial operation. Thanks to the great team effort of all partners and our dedicated and very experienced Senvion team, installation and commissioning of the wind farm went smoothly and we finished perfectly on schedule,” said Helmut Herold, chief executive officer of North America at Senvion Canada Inc.
Back in November 2014, Senvion has signed a turbine supply contract with another wind farm in Quebec, Canada. The 150 MW wind farm, called Mesgi’g Ugju’s’s, is expected to be commissioned by the end of 2016 (see related story).
At present, Senvion has a footprint of around 800 MW in Quebec that the company’s local team installed and commissioned since 2010. – EcoSeed staff
