Spanish wind turbine maker Gamesa S.A. opened its new assembly plant in Brazil, the company’s first such facility in the country.
The plant, which has a 400-megawatt production capacity, will build the nacelles of Gamesa’s G9X and G8X wind turbine models which both have a 2-MW output.
The company said the establishment of its first manufacturing plant in the country is part of its plan to develop Brazil’s wind energy potential, and expand their market operations in the Latin American region.
«Startup of production in Bahía is the lynchpin of our commitment to participating in the development of wind energy in Brazil,» Gamesa’s chief executive Jorge Calvet said.
Gamesa expects the growth of Brazil’s wind power market, citing the anticipated eight-fold increase in the country’s total installed wind power capacity in the next five years. (A.N.P. Cabrera)
