The companys Siemens Energy division will be delivering a total of 90 wind turbines to two subsidiaries of Thailands Wind Energy Holding Company.
Germany’s Siemens A.G. said it just entered the Thai wind market with turbine orders for two wind power plants in Northeastern Thailand with a combined capacity of about 200 megawatts.
The company’s Siemens Energy division will be delivering a total of 90 wind turbines to two subsidiaries of Thailand’s Wind Energy Holding Company.
K.R. Two Company will buy the turbines for the Korat 1 wind power plant, while First Korat Wind Company will acquire the units for the Korat 2 project, both to be in Nakorn Rachasrima Province.
Installation for both projects will begin in the spring of 2012, while commissioning is scheduled for the end of the year.
The two orders are the first ones Siemens has received from Thailand so far. Plans for the wind farms of the province began in March 2010.
Thailand is currently pursuing a low-carbon economy vision which targets 20.3 percent of its energy coming from renewables by 2022.
«The market entry in Thailand proves that our business gains momentum in Asia,» said Kay Weber, chief executive of the Siemens Wind Power Business Unit APAC. «We are confident that we will receive more orders in this dynamic region.»
The Ministry of Energy’s Renewable Energy Development Plan, approved in 2009, called for 115 MW of wind power capacity by 2011 and 800 MW by 2022. Ministry statistics put total installed capacity of wind power in Thailand at 7.13 MW as of March 2011. – K.R. Jalbuena
