Iberdrola has added 22 MW to the capacity of the La Ventosa wind power complex located in the municipality of Juchitan de Zaragoza, on the Isthmus of Tehauntepec – deemed one of the world’s best for wind resources.
Utilizing 11 Gamesa G80 wind turbines, each rated at 2 MW and stands 78 meters tall, La Ventosa now has a total capacity of 102 MW. La Ventosa can now supply electricity to over 190,000 Mexican households, helping avoid 230,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions into the atmosphere each year.
The extension project, which was executed by Iberdrola’s engineering and construction subsidiary, included the upgrade of the wind farm’s grid connection and the 230 kV transmission line owned by the Federal Commission for Electricity.
Over 250 construction jobs was created by the extension project, in addition, the wind power complex provides a steady income for around 150n families and land owners.
Meanwhile, Iberdrola is spearheading the development of new renewable energy projects in Mexico where it currently has 230 MW wind power capacity. Aside from La Ventosa, the Spanish electric utility company has two other wind farms in operation: La Venta III with 102 MW; and Bii Nee Stipa with 26 MW.
All of Iberdrola’s wind farms in Mexico make use Gamesa’s technology, a key global supplier of the private electric utility company. – EcoSeed Staff
