Yingli China forms J.V. with coal mining company to develop solar power plants

“Our Joint Venture echoes the national target for the building of a beautiful China and will help to meet our national targets for clean electricity generation,” said Chengsheng Li, chairman of the J.V. and Shuozou Coal Power.

Yingli Solar’s subsidiary Yingli China has signed a joint venture agreement with China’s third largest state-owned coal mining enterprise to develop solar power plants in Shanxi province.

The J.V. between Yingli China and coal mining enterprise Datong Coal Mine Group is for the development and the construction of solar power plants in Shuozou city, Shanxi province. No details were given yet as to what will be the capacity for the planned solar power plants and when they will be completed.

The inked J.V. agreement between the two builds upon a previous project wherein the two cooperated on a 20 megawatt utility-scale solar project located in Shanxi Province’s Tashan circular economic park, where Yingli China served as module supplier and was in charge of engineering, procurement, and construction.

“Our Joint Venture echoes the national target for the building of a beautiful China and will help to meet our national targets for clean electricity generation,” said Chengsheng Li, chairman of the J.V. and Shuozou Coal Power.

“We are delighted to enhance the cooperation with Datong Coal Mine Group through our new Joint Venture. This partnership provides Yingli Solar with a strategic avenue to expand our domestic downstream business. By leveraging advantages of both companies, we will be able to accelerate the project development and bring significant benefits to all parties involved,” said Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Liansheng Miao of Yingli Green Energy.

Meanwhile, Yingli China, together with Sinohydro Corporation Ltd. and Hydrochina Corporation, has also formed a three-party consortium for 233 MW worth of photovoltaic projects in Algeria.

The consortium formed – which received the winning bid notice last December – will be in charge of the design and construction of the PV projects. Construction is expected to begin in January 2014, with completion scheduled to be within eight months. – EcoSeed Staff
