Iberdrola and Peugeot eye E.V. rollout in Spain

Spanish utility Iberdrola, S.A. and French car maker Peugeot signed a deal to promote each other’s products in the electric mobility sector, a deal they hope will help ease the rollout of electric vehicles in Spain.

“Our objective is to promote the use of electric vehicles and to promote the implementation of specific initiatives, such as the deal signed today, that help make sustainable mobility a reality,” Iberdrola’s commercial manager Aitor Moso said.

The power company, signing the deal through subsidiary Servicios Energeticos, will recommend that its customers choose E.V.’s from Peugeot. The carmaker will also recommend Iberdrola’s Green Mobility initiative.

Peugeot currently offers the Peugeot Ion, its first 100 percent E.V. launched in Europe. It is a four-seater urban car with a 49 kW electric motor, running 150 km per charge on its lithium-ion battery.

Iberdrola’s Green Mobility is a comprehensive commercial package encompassing the electric vehicle, the installation of recharging stations, financing and the provision of a 100 percent renewable energy supply.

Iberdrola said it will also prioritize the acquisition of Peugeot’s E.V.’s for its fleet. In turn, Peugeot will consider Iberdrola’s energy supply services and recharging products for its Spanish network of dealerships and offices.

On July11 Iberdrola delivered 13 Peugeot Ion vehicles to the Andalusian regional government in Seville. These were presented complete with recharging points and will be used by the administration’s public courier service.

Iberdrola recently launched a plan which encourages the adoption of electric vehicles in Spain.

The group’s green transport plan offers financing to buy an electric vehicle, installation of the recharging station and the provision of a 100 percent renewable power supply.

Under the plan, the group offers customers a wide range of E.V.’s and financing options for vehicle purchase.

The company said it will also manage the installation of recharging stations in car parks, guaranteeing the safety of the equipment, and providing the user with an advisory service.

Spain’s largest utility group said it was working in partnership with various Spanish government bodies which have shown an interest in this type of transport to roll out electric mobility on a mass scale. The Company has made agreements with the regional governments of Castille and León, Valencia, the Basque Country, Murcia, Extremadura, Madrid and Catalonia to promote the installation of charging stations.
